Moon Sweepers Troubleshooting Guide
Independent Moon Sweepers guide by mooncleaning.net.
Start with the latest checked patch, 1.0.5, and keep a separate copy of saves before changing files. Official notes address post-load freezes, DX11 defaults and save repair. The table separates documented changes from general low-risk checks; no black-screen cure, crash reproduction or Steam Deck performance result is claimed.
Evidence: patch fixes are developer-reported, not independently reproduced by this site. Backup timing agrees with Wikily, whose description may derive from those notes; that is not independent experimental validation. Exact slot-folder layout remains a Wiki detail.
Symptom and the public fix
| Symptom | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| Freeze about 30 seconds after load | 1.0.5 says it fixed a repeatable Not Responding freeze on DX11 and DX12. |
| AMD crash or driver timeout | 1.0.4 made DX11 the Windows default. Update the GPU driver. -force-d3d12 opts into DX12. |
| Stutter in a large base | 1.0.5 mentions stutter and leak fixes. 1.0.3 claimed up to about 20% higher frame rate in the developers' tests. |
| Save looks corrupted | 1.0.3 repairs from a backup. 1.0.4 stores five backups per slot, first at 1 minute, then every 30 minutes. |
| Co-op will not connect | Same version, Steam running, host still in the session, not banned. Details on the co-op page. |
| Host left | The session ends. The Moon is the host's. |
| Black screen | No official fix was verified. Update, verify files, clear launch options, update the driver, then ask in Discord. |
| Tools disabled on Deck | One Steam thread on 28 October 2026 had no replies. Not a confirmed bug. |
Before you delete anything
Official 1.0.4 notes give the backup root as C:\Users\<you>\AppData\LocalLow\DragDropGames\MoonSweepers\Backups. Wikily adds a slot-<n> subfolder. Copy the whole backup root and save data to a separate location before changing anything. Do not delete or overwrite the only copy; automatic repair is documented, not guaranteed for every failure. Do not download replacement DLLs. See the trainer risk page.
When you write to the developers, include the patch number, DX11 or DX12, the GPU, the save slot, and whether any extra file is installed. The store page's website link is the Discord at discord.gg/5ATRkXkAAe. Patch changes are summarized on the patch notes page.
| Field | What to include |
|---|---|
| Version | Game version and whether all crewmates match. |
| System | Windows/Proton version, GPU and driver version. |
| Graphics | DX11 or DX12; exact launch options. |
| Session | Solo/co-op, host or guest, privacy setting. |
| Save / files | Affected slot, whether a backup exists, any added mods/DLLs. |
| Reproduction | Steps, timing, error text; do not post account tokens or private data. |

Questions people type
Moon Sweepers freezes after loading. What changed?
The 1.0.5 notes say they fixed a freeze some players hit shortly after loading, on both DirectX 11 and DirectX 12. Update before you add launch options.
Should I add -force-d3d11?
That advice is out of date. Patch 1.0.4 made DirectX 11 the default on Windows. Use -force-d3d12 only if you mean to opt into DirectX 12.
The save will not load.
1.0.3 repairs a damaged save from a backup on load. 1.0.4 keeps five backups per slot. Copy the backup folder before you experiment. Do not downgrade: 1.0.4 saves do not open in older builds.
